Membership

New members are always welcome. We appreciate your support and can always use your talents at the book sales, on our Executive Board or at the Friendshop.

Why should I join?
  • The Greater Victoria Public Library opens doors to those who are hungry for knowledge, ideas and exploration.
  • Membership in the Friends of the Library is a demonstration that you believe in the power of public libraries as places of community, sharing, and learning.
  • By raising funds and supporting literacy for everyone in our diverse community, you promote critical thinking in a changing world.

  • The opportunity to meet new people with a common interest
  • If you volunteer at book sales, you can get first pick to purchase up to 12 books. (Working at these sales can be a lot of fun too.)
  • A subscription to our Friends of the Library Newsletter.
How much does it cost?
  • Individual membership – $15 per year
  • Student membership (with valid ID) – $10 per year
  • Family membership – $25 per year, for up to 4 family members at the same address
  • Supporting membership – $40 per year
  • Lifetime Membership – $150 (one-time fee)
How to join or renew your membership
  1. (Recommended)  Join/renew online with a credit or debit card at gvplfriends.ecwid.com.  If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, check out the "Interested in Volunteering?" item! 

  2. Paying by cash or cheque? 
    • See below for a link to our fillable pdf membership form.  First download it and save it to your computer, and then complete it  (easy for you and legible for us!) and print it.  You can also pick up a membership brochure at any library branch.  
    • Place your completed application and membership dues in an addressed envelope and mail it to us, or drop it off at any GVPL Branch.
